Our newest exchange programme, Young Advocates for Change (YAC), is entering its second round from January 2017. The programme is funded by FK Norway and coordinated by the Africa Alliance of YMCAs. Y Global is recruiting 3 Norwegians, aged 20-25, to be part of this exciting opportunity. YAC offers personal development and a life changing experience, at the same time allowing you to support African communities to make positive changes for young people.

As a Young Advocate for Change, you get to spend 10 months in a YMCA in either Kenya, Madagascar or Zimbabwe. There, together with 2 other participants, you will engage in advocacy work at community level.
The exchange is divided into 3 parts:
Preparation Phase: 15 January – 17 February 2017. After preparation with Y Global, you will join participants from other exchange programmes for FK Norway training in Uganda. You will then join the other 15 YAC participants for 3 weeks of preparation in South Africa, which includes training on intercultural understanding, advocacy training, training on African and global realities, and team building.
Placement in host YMCA : 18 February – 15 November 2017 . Together with 2 other participants you will be based in a local branch in either Madagascar, Kenya or Zimbabwe. Here you will use your leadership skills to engage in advocacy work at community level, help create power spaces for young people, deliver training, reach out to new members and stakeholders.
Follow up work with Y Global : 16 Nov – 15 Dec 2017. After a debriefing you will have an opportunity to use your new skills whilst working with Y Global at our office in Oslo.

*S2C is a methodology developed by the Africa Alliance of YMCAs for empowering young people. It involves changing the way people think so that they move from thinking they have no power to make change in their lives, to being leaders who know their rights, claim their rights and work for positive change.
